Shoes are an important part of our lives. Most of us wear them every day. Some are worn because of work. Some are worn just to show off. But, no matter the reason why we wear them, we all want them to be comfortable. We all want to get our money's worth out of the shoes we purchase.
Knowing a few tricks to get the best performance and wear out of your shoes makes a big difference in how long your shoe wardrobe will last. In this six-part series we will discuss a few low budget shoe hacks to improve comfort, cleaning, repairs and storage of your favorite shoes. Time of day is important: Whenever possible, shop for shoes later in the day. You may not realize it but your feet tend to swell up to a half size larger during the day.
Prevent slipping: Rubbing sandpaper on the soles of new shoes improves grip.
Leather shoes feeling a little snug: Put on a pair of socks, put on your shoes then blast the shoe with a hair dryer for about 2 minutes while flexing your feet. Repeat a few times until the shoes feel comfortable. Keep the socks and shoes on until the leather cools.
Weatherproofing: Rubbing beeswax on canvas shoes will improve their water resistance.
Prevent blisters: Applying a gel deodorant to the inside of your shoe can prevent friction which will help to prevent blistering.
